In Focus | Okanagan Mom Style
Meet the beautiful ladies of Okanagan Mom Style! Okanaganmomstyle is made up of four moms who have been friends for 11+ years. They enjoy spending time together and sharing their motherhood journeys with each other.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Aside from our families, we love spending time with each other. We find that by connecting with other moms we feel inspired, encouraged and can relate on so many things in this motherhood journey. What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Superstore is a great one-stop shop, yay for hiding your clothes in your grocery budget 😉 But as far as local goes, we all love what we find at Blonde downtown for special occasions and the thrifter in us enjoys Frock & Fellow for some preloved goodness.
Describe yourself in one word.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Somewhere tropical. Doesn’t matter where as long as they serve margaritas on the beach.
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
It’s hard to list one activity when we live in such an incredible place with all it has to offer. Whether it’s at the beach, hiking, camping, or skiing, we all feel recharged from the great outdoors.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
We feel inspired by each other to:
Always believe in yourself
Stay true to what makes you unique
Trust your gut
Keep an open mind
Accept your limitations, you are exactly where you are supposed to be
Never stop dreaming
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
Season has had the opportunity to be a lead volunteer for the Okanagan Dream Rally over the past three years. It’s an amazing experience seeing how the community of Kelowna comes together to help children in need. Giving them a day to remember is something that has imprinted her heart and has made a lasting impression. She looks forward to giving back for many years to come.
Valerie and her family have poured so much into our community over the years through volunteering with local youth, Kelowna Gospel Mission, the food bank, and families and youth in need.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
That mankind would notice more of the good in people and be intentionally kind.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
We all love the lake! It’s a great spot for reflection and alone time.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
Living in West Kelowna we would all love to see an updated recreation centre. Something that includes an indoor sports field, arena, courts, new swimming pool, gym, etc. An all in one place close to home where our kids can stay active. Something similar to the Capital News Center/H2O in Kelowna would be incredible for West Kelowna!
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
We live in the California of Canada. It’s a paradise people dream of visiting and we are blessed to live here all year long. From the views, wineries, lakes, mountains and community, what’s not to love about Kelowna. We also love that it has four fashion.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
When okanaganmomstyle can take fashion to the beaches of the Mediterranean (sans kids) for the vacation of a lifetime. As a group of four, it would be incredible to be funded to go to New York Fashion Week!
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
We have 14 children between us ranging from ages 1.5 – 17 years.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
What is the name of your business/organization?
Why did you get into/start this business?
We are all busy moms who love fashion and started this as a way to stay connected. We find inspiration from seeing each other’s outfits and hope that we can do the same for others. We feel the way you dress gives you the power to feel positive about your self.
What is the goal of your business?
Our goal and dream would be to have meaningful partnerships and create opportunities to reach and inspire people. It would be amazing to have a full-time career as influencers who inspire and empower women to pursue their dreams while having fun with their friends.
What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Our biggest struggle has been getting our schedules to line up as we are all busy moms. Another struggle has been finding a photographer to snap pics for our Instagram content.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
We would do things the same. When we started it was just for fun and we were not striving to reach a goal. As we went along people showed interest in our account which inspired us to do more. We want to do what works for us and stay true to ourselves.
What do you always find yourself saying?
You do you!
Tell us your best piece of life advice.
“Don’t compare yourself to others! You are perfectly unique.”
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Local shops are vital to our community and the economy of our city. Supporting local businesses keeps our community alive and thriving and many local companies give back by donating to local non-profit groups and sports teams.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Being approached to do a feature article for Mint Magazine.
Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
